Article 18. The content of military service The Law on Military Service and the Status of Military Personnel
1. Military service includes:
1) conscription;
2) military service under contract.
Conscription military service includes:
1) conscription of enlisted and non-commissioned personnel;
2) military service of officers called up in accordance with Article 32 of this Law;
3) military service during mobilization, martial law, during wartime and during military training.
Military service under the contract includes:
1) military service of military personnel undergoing military service under contract in military positions of enlisted, non-commissioned and officer personnel;
2) military service and training of cadets, cadets, adjuncts, undergraduates and doctoral students, military interns, military resident doctors of military and special educational institutions.
2. Citizens called up for military training shall perform military service duties.
3. The time spent on military service is equal to the time spent studying citizens at full-time educational institutions of law enforcement and special government agencies, the authorized body in the field of civil protection, as well as the time spent on military training in specialized organizations of the Ministry of Defense under the military reserve training program.
4. Military personnel take the military oath of allegiance to the people of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Those liable for military service who have not previously taken the military oath take it upon conscription and mobilization.
Students of military departments take the military oath during the training camp.
5. Citizens shall be granted a postponement or exemption from military service in the cases and in the manner prescribed by this Law.

This Law regulates public relations in the field of military service by citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan and defines the foundations of the state policy on social security for military personnel.
